Combining Fast, Linear and Slow Diffusion
Although the pioneering studies of G. I. Barenblatt ([8]) and A. G. Aronson and L. A. Peletier ([7]) did result into a huge industry around the porous media equation, none further study analyzed the effect of combining fast, slow, and linear diffusion simultaneously, in a spatially heterogeneous porous medium. Actually, it might be this is the first work where such a problem has been addressed....
متن کاملFast/slow Diffusion and Collapsing Sandpiles
We regard the limit as p ! 1 of the ow governed by the p-Laplacian as providing a simplistic model for the \collapse of an initially unstable sandpile." Upon rescaling to stretch out the initial layer we obtain some simple dynamics and provide fairly explicit solutions in certain cases. In particular we note that such models entail \instanta-neous" mass transfer governed by Monge-Kantorovich th...
متن کاملThinking, Fast and Slow: Combining Vector Spaces and Knowledge Graphs
Knowledge graphs and vector space models are robust knowledge representation techniques with individual strengths and weaknesses. Vector space models excel at determining similarity between concepts, but are severely constrained when evaluating complex dependency relations and other logicbased operations that are a strength of knowledge graphs. We describe the VKG structure that helps unify kno...

متن کاملSlow Diffusion Underlies Alternation of Fast and Slow Growth Periods of Microtubule Assembly
In vitro microtubule assembly exhibits a rhythmic phenomenon, that is, fast growth periods alternating with slow growth periods. Mechanism underlying this phenomenon is unknown. Here a simple diffusion mechanism coupled with small diffusion coefficients is proposed to underlie this phenomenon. Calculations based on previously published results demonstrate that such a mechanism can explain the d...
